Harry Cory Wright for House & Garden
Harewood House was built in the 18th century for Edwin Lascelles, at that time one of the richest men in England. Architect John Carr from York designed the house in the Palladian style, based on classical architecture. Robert Adam was brought in to design the interiors in his neoclassical manner. Furniture was supplied by Thomas Chippendale, while Edwin also consulted Capability Brown to plan the gardens and grounds.
The house has been altered and expanded by successive generations of the Lascelles family. In the 19th century, extra space was added by with the help of Sir Charles Barry. Harewood House has served as a country house, a Victorian home, a royal residence, and twice as a convalescent hospital.
I visited the private apartments of the Lascelles family, so no photography allowed. But I think the rooms that are open to the public are nice too :)
