Gunton Park near Cromer North Norfolk is one of the grandest and finest designed Georgian landscapes in East Anglia. The Hall was built in the 1740s and enlarged in 1775. A huge fire almost completely destroyed part of the house in 1882. Kit Martin CBE came to Gunton in 1980 and started to restore the house and its magnificent park, the latter with Ivor Braka. The estate now consists of 20 dwellings.
Since the 1970s, Kit Martin has specialised in the saving and restoration of country houses, by dividing them into smaller dwellings and apartments. He has restored and converted around twelve houses, eight in England and four in Scotland, as well as other types of historic building.
St Andrew’s Church was built in 1769 by Robert Adam and is his only complete church
The Gunton Park Sawmill dates from 1824 and is powered by a mill pond.
The Gunton Arms is a traditional pub with 16 bedrooms located in the park. The pub reflects its owners passion for art and has works by Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach and many others.
