Burghley House is a grand English country house located near Stamford. It is a leading example of the Elizabethan prodigy house, built and still lived in by the senior (Exeter) branch of the Cecil family. The surrounding parkland was designed by Capability Brown.
The house is considered one of the most important examples of sixteenth-century English architecture and was built for Sir William Cecil, Lord high Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I.
