"If you see a cypress tree, you know there will be a country house nearby"

Recently I joined a group tour to Yorkshire organized by Historic Decoration. On this trip we visited twelve country estates and stayed at Middlethorpe Hall, a seventeenth century house. Now a hotel, it is part of the Historic House Hotel group and is an amazing place to stay at if you don't mind giving up some modern luxuries.
I did not stay in a room at the big house, but on the first floor of a cottage on the estate. I had a little sitting room, a bedroom and a guest room (that was haunted). The decor was very flowery and charming and my stay felt like a trial period for an escape to the country!
